Electric Creatures is the result of a long process in which I questioned and redefined my relationship with the genre that is most often called “contemporary classical” music. I have played everything from Grisey to Boulez to Reich, and I’ve come to a conclusion. What I’m interested in now is a music that combines deep and complex compositional ideas with the accessibility typical of certain popular musical genres: rock, ambient and electronic music.

Electric Creatures features compositions that explore a vast terrain: a meticulous spectral work on the harmonic series is immersed in drones that evoke Brian Eno’s ambient productions, an avant-garde tribute to Led Zeppelin, a post-modern hip-hop extravaganza for electric guitar and voices filtered through a boombox, minimal melodies that develop into a Pink Floydian distortion, and a soundscape where Arvo Pärt’s legacy meets Radiohead and Sigur Rós.

I am searching--like many others before me--for a musical world that is more than what it seems. I want a music full of textural, timbral, and emotional vibrancy, a music that draws the listener back again and again to discover something utterly profound in spite of its simplicity.
